EMDR Counselling Perth

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that is widely used to help overcome Trauma, PTSD, Depression, Anxiety and Panic Disorder. EMDR can be used for Adults and Children.

Negative experiences can sometimes remain in our memory and start to dominate our daily lives in a negative way. EMDR is a type of therapy that helps reprocess negative memories so that they become less disruptive.

EMDR and Panic Disorder

During the treatment of panic disorder, your counsellor would discuss with you the thoughts that trigger your panic attacks. Your counsellor would ask you to bring your attention to the distributive thoughts and keep in mind the physical sensation that would arise during the panic attack.

EMDR works towards breaking any association that one has between the circumstances and symptoms. EMDR would also help you work on the anxiety that is part of the panic attack. For example, if one gets panic attacks during driving, EMDR would help the person remain calm before driving and feel safe on the road. Your counsellor would also assign you homework such as visualizing and practicing some relaxation techniques.

EMDR and Complex PTSD

Complex PTSD is a result of long term exposure and repeated traumatic events. Complex trauma can be interpersonal such as an individual who has experienced chronic neglect, abuse or exposed to domestic violence. Your counsellor would work with you to face the difficult memories without being overwhelmed.
